Hide AdRosemary and Graham’s daughter Emily-Jane died from bone cancer in January 2008, when she was just 16.
The courageous Lenzie Academy pupil fought a two-year battle with osteosarcoma after a lump appeared on her knee. The family, from Kirkintilloch, and friends have raised an incredible £48,600 for the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) through a variety of activities.
The cash helped to create a TCT facility at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Glasgow’s Yorkhill.
Money raised will go to units to be built at the new children’s hospitals in Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as funding staff and maintenance for the units already in use.

Hide AdRosemary, a teacher at Auchinloch Primary, said: “We will finish our challenge on September 9. It would have been Emily-Jane’s 21st birthday on September 10 and we would like to have reached our fundraising target by then. Emily-Jane was part of a youth voices group, which was involved in putting forward ideas for how rooms in the unit could look. I believe a lot of ideas were taken on board for the design of the new hospitals.”
Rosemary and Graham’s daughter, Juliet (16), is also taking part in the 5x50 challenge by running each day to raise money for a trip to Malawi next year as part of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Rosemary added: “We will mostly be walking, but might build up to running. From our house, there’s four different directions we can go, including along the canal. At the weekends we’ll probably go somewhere a bit further away to walk. I’ve been taking photos as proof.”
