Window to the Past: Pollok Castle

Delving back, way back, into history we take a look this week at Pollok castle.

Specifically, this is one of the outer gates.

The castle was developed from an 11th century tower a large, stately house in 1686 — built by Sir Robert Pollok.

The house was gutted by a fire in 1882 and rebuilt in a Scottish Baronial style.

The castle, as we now see it, was again rebuilt in 2003, in the Scottish Adam style by Alex Hewitt.

The present-day building uses some of the original castle structures.
