IN this week’s Gazette Sport, we reveal that a recent recruitment drive has ensured that Biggar is to have its first adult amateur football team for 23 years.

We report on children from Lanark’s Robert Owen Primary School winning a magnificent seven medals at the South Lanarkshire Track and Field Championships and reveal that Biggar Rugby Club have signed two players from Hawick.

Charity bets struck by Carluke resident Andy Goram, a former Rangers and Scotland goalkeeper, came up and helped raise £605 for the Travistrek charity. He bet Spain to win Euro 2012 and Fernando Torres and Mario Gomez to be top goalscorer.

And we’ve got a full picture round-up from the South Lanarkshire Council Sports Awards ceremony, which saw prizes go to Clydesdale quartet Donald McLeod, Lois Hamilton, Jack McComish and Millar Stoddart.
