Tinto Hill Challenge was tough

IF you think that racing 7km up and down Tinto Hill near Symington sounds totally exhausting, then Gazette Sport can confirm that you could be entirely correct!

For that is exactly the opinion of Tinto Hill Runners member Mairi Struthers, one of the 259 runners who took part in this year’s ‘Run and Become’ Tinto Hill Race.

Mairi, who eventually finished 181st, spoke highly of the fantastic, friendly atmosphere among racers prior to the start. And also about the gruelling aspect of actually taking part!

She said: “The ground wasn’t too muddy and the bottom part seemed to pass quickly. Once I hit the stoney ascent my legs began to ache and I noticed that others had started to walk.

“I had never walked up even on a training night, however, I did follow suit as there was nowhere to go around.”
