Players from Milngavie and Bearsden serve up success at Scottish senior championships

Tennis players from Milngavie and Bearsden were to the fore as they got among the medals at the Scottish Seniors Tennis Championships at Whitecraigs.

Milngavie Tennis Club players Ian Swann and Hunter Reid were both successful in winning titles on the artificial clay courts at the beautiful Whitecraigs Tennis Club on the south side of Glasgow.

Ian, a retired A & E consultant from Strathblane, won both the 65s Scottish Seniors Singles and Doubles Championships.

Ian was partnered by Colin Anderson from Auchtermuchty in Fife in the doubles.

Milngavie stalwart Hunter Reid, partnered by Stewart Walker from Broomhill, won the 70s Scottish Seniors Doubles Championship and was runner up in the Singles Championship.

And Bearsden Tennis Club player John Beeley, partnered by Jim McGowan from Helensburgh, was runner up in the 70s doubles event.

Hunter and Ian play for the Glasgow Wide Boys International Touring Team.

The team, which will undertake its annual tour of Tuscany later this month, is drawn from throughout the UK, but all team members have connections with Glasgow and most with Milngavie Tennis Club.
