Former Lanark ace Dougie makes Clyde debut in 5-0 win
FORMER Lanark United star Dougie Imrie enjoyed his first taste of senior football in spectacular style on Saturday - when he played all 90 minutes of Clyde's emphatic 5-0 division one win at Stranraer.
Four goals from Roddy Hunter and one by Romuald Bouadji gave Clyde an easy victory, ensuring a dream senior debut for the 22-year-old ex-Moor Park hero.
''Getting a place in the starting 11 was the highlight of the day for me,'' Dougie told Gazette Sport on Monday.
''I didn't expect it at all and thought I would only be a sub at best.
''I could have scored our first goal. I was only a foot away from the ball before Roddy slotted it in.
''I had a couple of shots at goal later on and I had a good cross for one of the other boys when we hit the post in the second half.''
Dougie said the pace of the match was ''much quicker'' than what he had experienced at junior level.
''There was more one touch and two touch stuff compared to the juniors, which is mostly long ball stuff and bad tackles,'' he added.
''I was knackered at the end and really glad to hear the referee's full-time whistle!
''After the game the manager Graham Roberts said to me: 'Excellent, what a debut!'
''I also spoke later to Lanark United coach Stevie Pillans, who wished me all the best.''
Dougie was chatting the day before Clyde's massive Scottish Cup 4th Round replay at Gretna, which he hoped to be involved in. Following that game, the 22-year-old's next assignment for The Bully Wee could come in this Saturday's home first division clash against Dundee.
''Hopefully I'll stay in the team this weekend against Dundee,'' Dougie added.
''The Stranraer game can't have done my chances any harm.''
