Saturday’s Lanark and Renfrewshire Hunt meeting at Overton Farm exceeded even organiser Willie Young’s expectations.
More than 5000 spectators turned out for the afternoon’s ten races and enjoyed the fantastic weather which is as much a staple of the recent meetings as the high calibre horse racing on show.
Sposalizio and Klepht took the main events, the Ladies and Gents Open races, but much enjoyment was had by the punters and around 20 bookmakers on course.
Veteran organiser Willie said: “The weather brings them out, and the people turned out in great number. It was a terrific crowd.
“All in all it was another successful event and we look forward to exactly the same next year.”
Three pony races were held as well as the point to point horse races on Saturday afternoon. Millie Butterfly finished ahead of Ninfield Millionaire’s Delight and Kalusta Fire Cracker in the first before Stretcholt Mermes and Doppio Movimento recorded wins.
The NPPA Club Members Race was won by Sharivarry ahead of Little Fritz and Great Gusto.
Locked in the Pocket won the 6 year olds and over Overton Racing Club Members Conditions Race ahead of Tommysteel and Silent Snow.
Court Painter was first in the four to seven year old Open Maiden Race, while Mr Shahady won the restricted race.
The afternoon’s horse racing was completed by the open maiden race won by ‘S for Estuary’.
