Lesmahagow Juniors crashed out of the Exsel Sectional League Cup at the quarter-final stage when they were defeated 3-1 by Wishaw at Craighead Park on Wednesday night.
Yet ’Gow had started fairly well and should have gone ahead when John McStay found himself one on one with Wishaw keeper Sandy Thompson but his attempted lob slid past the post.
Wishaw went in front with a goal from Ryan Smillie. This followed a great crossfield pass from Daly to McNulty on the right and his cross was superbly turned into the net by Smillie.
This lead was soon increased after a defence splitting pass from Smillie had been sent into the path of Kindlan. His low cross was met at the back post by Daly, who tapped into the empty net from five yards out.
‘Gow pulled one back on 48 minutes.
Good work on the right by MacDonald found Currie in space at the back post. He took a great first touch before slotting the ball into the net.
’Gow were playing well at this stage and Wishaw had keeper Thompson to thank for keeping them in the game with a string of geat saves that kept out the hosts.
Wishaw scored again on 93 minutes when, with all the ’Gow players pushing forward for an equaliser, a Macdonald corner was headed out to Smillie who ran almost the length of the park to blast home his second and Wishaw’s third.
