Three off for Carluke Rovers in 3-0 derby defeat to Lanark United

A dramatic local derby between Lanark United and Carluke Rovers saw United romp home 3-0 in Saturday's League Two encounter as Rovers had three players sent off in the final 12 minutes, writes Tam Anderson.

First to go on 78 minutes was defender James McAllister after receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Hugh Kerr as he raced towards the penalty box. Carluke captain Mark Weir then became involved in a heated argument with the referee and he too was sent off for a second yellow card offence.Rovers continued with nine men but on 83 minutes Andrew Lindsay was also red carded for stopping a goalbound header from Cammy Lawson with his hand to prevent the ball entering the net. Ian Watt scored with the resultant penalty to add to a first half goal from Lawson on 22 minutes when he scrambled the ball over the line following a right wing corner.Hugh Kerr added a third goal on 88 minutes when he volleyed the ball home after being set up by Joshua Gracie.Over the course of the game Carluke played well with plenty of possession in the midfield area, but their finishing was very poor and Lanark keeper Gareth Hallford, back from a spell at Albion Rovers, was seldom troubled.Before the sendings off it looked as though United would hold onto their one goal advantage but it was made easy for them as the visitors completely lost their composure in the closing stages.Meanwhile, Lanark have signed defender Craig Stark from Amateur side Cambusnethan Talbot.Saturday’s result leaves Lanark third in the table and Carluke down in seventh after two straight defeats.League action again this Saturday sees Carluke host Ardeer Thistle and Lanark travel to St Anthony’s.Both matches will kick-off at 2pm.
