The Danish climate is typically at its warmest between June and August - and its countryside is at its prettiest.

This is also when the country's tourist facilities are best equipped.

What to do?

The city's iconic Tivoli Pleasure Gardens are set to enjoy their 175th anniversary with the arrival of new attractions and shows. The park consists of century-old rollercoasters, an open-air pantomime theatre and music halls.

If you want to keep your feet firmly on the ground, explore Christiania - the city's autonomous anarchist neighbourhood, made up of DIY housing and rustic cafes, and inhabited by local free spirits.

For a dose of culture explore Rosenborg Slot, a gorgeous 17th century castle, once inhabited by King Christian IV.
