Winter solstice in Clydesdale: caught on camera

CLYDESDALE nightwatchers celebrated this year's winter solstice.

And Gazette photographer Lindsay Addison was on hand to take this stunning set of images in the early hours of last Tuesday.

The word solstice comes from the Latin phrase for 'sun stands still'.

The solstice happens twice a year because the Earth is tilted by 23.5 degrees as it orbits the sun.
