THE annual Hawksland Hill Run takes place today, Sunday July 12.
The road will be closed at 8.30am, and the competitions, for non-powered bogies, carties, sidecars, luge and gravity bikes down the 800 metre course, take place from 9.30am until 4pm.
Event organiser Stuart Sommerville said: “This will be our fourth year and we now have more competitors coming from further afield.
“We are hoping that the weather will be kind to us and that the public will come out and support the event. The only year we were unfortunate was the year Andy Murray won Wimbledon and we had our event on the same day!
“We are excited that the street luge professionals will be there and I’m hoping to have a go myself.”
One man who knows more than most about the Hill Run is Graham Mays.
Graham, along with partner Irene, have triumphed on two occasions and is hoping that more people will take part this year than ever before.
“A lot of hard work is put in to make the event a success,” said Graham. “One reason we do it is to raise funds for our nominated charities.”
All funds raised will be split equally between MacMillan Cancer Care and Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
