Three injured in Motherwell car crash

The incident took place near the entrance to Strathclyde Park

Around 8.40pm a Vauxhall Vectra taxi was involved in a collision with a Ford Focus near to the entrance of Strathclyde Park.

Emergency services attended and the 23-year-old male passenger in the taxi was taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital with serious head and neck injuries.

He was later transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he remains in a serious condition.

A six year-old girl, who was also a passenger in the taxi, was taken to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment and was detained overnight.

The driver of the taxi was taken to Wishaw General with minor injuries and released after treatment. The driver of the Ford Focus was uninjured.

Constable Stephanie Boyle, of Motherwell Road Policing Unit, said: “Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and witnessed the collision to get in touch.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101.”
