Sun shines for Blackwood/Kirkmuirhill Gala Day

IT was fun and excitement all the way for Queen Shonagh Milne and the rest of her court as Blackwood/Kirkmuirhill Gala Day successfully dodged the rain on Saturday.

Last year’s gala was hampered by it but, thankfully, the heavens did not open until late afternoon meaning this year’s procession and crowning ceremony, at Lochanbank Park, was very well attended.

And it was smiles all round as retiring Queen Carly Barr crowned 2012 Queen Shonagh with Champion Frazer Ferguson, Maids Stacy Chalmers, Ellie Barr, Jodie Moore and Amy Moffat and Pages Adam Brennan, Cameron Fulton, Calvin Lang and Lewis McLean looking on.

Earlier in the day, the procession marched through the streets of Blackwood and Kirkmuirhill and as always there were plenty of colourful costumes on show.

Among the procession delights were tigers and fairies, not to mention the cast of Mrs Brown’s Boys who joined in the fun.
