Polish vet student chooses ‘best practice’

From Eastern Europe to south Glasgow, an aspiring animal doctor spent the summer as an intern to a veterinary practice to widen her knowledge of the subject.Joanna Kłosińska who is entering her final year studying veterinary medicine at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, Poland, has been welcomed into The Pets’n’Vets Family in Glasgow this summer, sponsored by the EU Erasmus+ scheme which helps students gain opportunities to develop their skills throughout Europe.The Pets’n’Vets Family partner Ross Allan, who runs a practice in Pollokshaws, said: “We were approached by Joanna last year and thought it would be tremendous to give her the opportunity to visit us. “We gave her a warm welcome and were confident she would return to her studies in Poland with new skills and great memories of Scotland.”Joanna said: “I couldn’t have chosen a better practice to visit.“I spent an exciting two months with amazing people who shared their knowledge with me.“Every day, I learned something new and developed my skills.“I had the chance to help with complex surgeries, allowing dogs and cats to live their lives to the fullest while also assisting at consultations and the daily work of the veterinary team.“Summer is almost over, my traineeship is ending, but it is not the end for me.“My visit to Scotland has given me even further drive to develop to be the best vet I can be.“I am immensely grateful to Erasmus+ and The Pets’n’Vets Family for the opportunity to broaden my personal horizons and develop my ambitions.“I love this landscape and people, because ‘People Make Glasgow’.”And Joanna clearly chose well when she approached the Pollokshaws practice as it was recenlty announced the practice has been nominated for a prestigious business sector award.Mr Allan confirmed: “We are delighted to have been nominated for Glasgow’s Favourite Business 2015.”
