Former missionary Margaret Young celebrated her 102nd birthday with a party at her home in Auchlochan, Lesmahagow, last week.

Margaret (nee Halliday) was born in Edwardian times, on July 25, 1909.

Her father was a baker in Shettleston with his own business, and Margaret was the eldest of his three children.

When she was still very young, her family emigrated to Canada and Margaret was educated in Toronto.

But, during her time in college, she felt a real call to be a missionary in Africa.
