POLICE are appealing for information following a robbery at Lesmahagow’s Royal Bank of Scotland branch.
The incident, which took place at around midday, saw one man enter the branch, in Abbeygreen, and demand money from the staff.
A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed that there were no injuries but could not confirm how much cash, if any, had been stolen.
Lesmahagow Community Council chairman Craig Ritchie said: “I was pretty shocked when I heard the news. It’s not something that you expect to happen in a village like ours.
“I am sure the police will be doing their very best to catch those responsible and bring them to justice.
“It must have been terrifying for the staff and members of the public who witnessed it. Thankfully it appears that no-one seems to have been hurt.”
If anyone has information regarding the robbery then they are asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
