Laura’s legacy lives on with Beatson donation

Friends and family of a much-loved former St Ninian’s pupil have raised more than £12,400 for the Beatson Cancer Charity — by celebrating her 30th birthday.

Clarkston girl Laura McArthur lost her brave battle with breast cancer in April 2013, aged just 27.

A research assistant at Glasgow University, the St Ninian’s head girl is remembered by her loved ones for her own fundraising efforts, and for her many achievements.

Friend Mary Skene told The Extra: “As head girl she took to charity fundraising. Laura loved school and took to the role with organisational skills that defined her.

“She also successfully obtained a degree in psychology — one of many achievements in her full life cut short.”

With the blessing of Laura’s family, Mary and friends set about celebrating their friend’s 30th birthday with her love of charity work in mind — and all that hard work has paid off, as the southside event raised a total of £12,402.

The girls also created a slideshow video of Laura’s life for the Beatson birthday fundraiser — commenting on an online version, one family member said: “A very big thank you to those special friends of our Laura — what a beautiful tribute.”

Another added: “Well done girls, you did Laura proud.

“Each and every one of you are stars and the memories you have created are so special.”
