AS the Gazette went to press on Tuesday, it was learned that Lanark’s long-established Wallace TCB depot on Hyndford Road is to close.
On Tuesday morning management held a meeting with the estimated 40 local staff of the firm, still better known by its former name of Wallace Express, to tell them that the Lanark depot was to close in three month’s time.
Redundancy offers or re-deployment options will be put to the staff on Friday, it is understood.
A company spokesman said that there was a major overhaul of the Wallace network due to a new partnership with DHL Supply Chain Ltd.
The Lanark depot would, indeed, be closing as part of this.
He added: “Staff have been informed of the situation and will enter into consultation with the company and elected representatives to discuss their options.”
