PUPILS and staff at Lanark Primary School have been left grief-stricken by the sudden death of a highly popular young teacher in a freak accident.
The P2 teacher Maryam Najafian died on Monday from head injuries received the afternoon before in a sledging accident in Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Park. She was only 25 years old.
The news of her death was broken to her pupils at the school on Monday, leaving some in tears.
The sad tidings given to pupils quickly spread to parents, one of whom described Maryam this week as “a young, beautiful, talented teacher who the children just adored.”
Lanark Primary head teacher Margaret Scott said: “Maryam was a shining light in Lanark Primary. We are devastated with her loss and will miss her deeply in our school and in our lives.
“She was known and loved by all here as she involved herself so much in the whole life of the school.
“More than anything, Maryam was a dedicated teacher who did everything she could for the benefit of the children in her care.
