Kirkintilloch supermarket staff feel the chill as heating breaks down in sub-zero temperatures

Staff at a Kirkintilloch supermarket have been left shivering as the store's central heating system broke down - during one of the coldest weeks of the year.

The heating at Sainsbury’s went on the blink on Monday, November 21 – as temperatures plummeted below zero.

Shop workers were forced to keep on their scarves and coats to keep warm as management tried to remedy the problem.

A relative of a store worker told the Herald yesterday (Wednesday): “It is really cold in the store and I’m concerned that no alternative heating has been provided while the system is fixed.”

Today (Thursday), a spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said: “There has been a problem with the heating system which means some areas of the store are colder than usual.

“We’re working as quickly as possible to fix the problem, and alternative arrangements, including the provision of electric heaters, have been made.”
