HAVING been diagnosed with breast cancer twice in six years, Kathleen Ellwood had more reason than most to ponder whether she’d reach her 50th birthday.

However, having successfully beaten the disease on two occasions, Kathleen celebrated her big 5-0 in style.

But there were no presents at her birthday bash.

Instead, Kathleen insisted on her family and friends making a donation to Breast Cancer Care.

And the 100 or so guests, who were at her birthday in Biggar Municipal Hall, certainly did that by raising a whopping £905 for the charity very close to Kathleen’s heart.

Kathleen’s friends and family had a surprise in store at the party when husband Keith, sister Ann and friends Maureen, Morag and Lin donned their tartan trousers and dressed up as The Bay City Rollers before performing 70s classic Shang-a-Lang.

And the “Biggar City Rollers” were also at the town’s Elphinstone Hotel when Kathleen handed over a bumper cheque to Breast Cancer Care representative Fiona Argo who was only too happy to pick up such a huge donation.
