Join Douglas debate on Fairer Scotland tomorrow

Clydesdale Citizens Advice, based in Lanark, will talk about the work volunteers have been doing, highlighting the key issues affecting people in Lanarkshire.

Clydesdale Citizens Advice Bureau aims to provide the advice people need for the problems they face and to improve social policies.

Healthy Valleys and Social Justice Secretary Alex Neil will also be giving presentations.

Healthy Valleys is a community-led health initiative established in 2003 to reduce health inequalities, promote positive lifestyles and improve health and wellbeing in rural South Lanarkshire.

Aileen Campbell, SNP MSP for Clydesdale, is hosting the public conversation event with Social Justice Secretary Alex Neil at the St Bride’s Centre in Douglas at 7pm on November 3.

Aileen has organised the event to ensure that people in Clydesdale get a chance to debate their suggestions for a fairer and more equal Scotland and to raise them with the Scottish Government.

All interested local groups and constituents are invited to attend, by booking a place via Aileen’s office on 01555 750 249.

“It’s great to have Healthy Valleys and Citizens Advice coming along to do presentations of the great work they do across Clydesdale to reduce inequality,” said Aileen.

“Alex Neil is very keen to hear from people with ideas to reduce inequality and Citizens Advice can show what the work they’ve been doing to highlight some of the key social issues affecting people in Lanarkshire.

“Clydesdale has a long tradition of promoting equality whether in Robert Owen’s New Lanark or amongst the radical reformist weavers of Strathaven.

“Public discussion and democratic vibrancy were also a fundamental part of last year’s referendum.

“The Scottish Government is keen to continue the discussion about how we best build a fairer Scotland for all and tackle inequality in all its forms.

“I’m delighted my colleague Alex Neil is coming to take part in the discussion in Douglas. As Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Communities and Pensioners’ Rights he has made it very clear that he will listen to ideas from all over Scotland on how we can best tackle inequality and make Scotland a better place to live.

“Having both organisations along to give a presentation will ensure that he is up-to-date with some of the great work going on in Clydesdale. I’m looking forward to welcoming him to Douglas and giving all local people and voluntary groups a chance to raise their suggestions for a more socially just Scotland.”
