Honouring war generation Glaswegians

Glasgow is set to host the largest of three European events to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War.

The George Square commemoration takes place on August 4, joining the centenary programme alongside events at Westminster Abbey and in Mons, Belgium.

Lord provost Sadie Docherty commented: “Glasgow is deeply honoured to be hosting the first of the UK centenary war commemorations.

“Glasgow’s war story is one reflected around the world. For this reason Glasgow has made the decision to commemorate, remember and learn from those who sacrificed their lives.”
