Music in Lanark is running a Summer Series of free Sunday afternoon piano recitals at 3pm in The Institute at New Lanark.
These are being given to show off the new Kawai piano which MiL has been able to acquire thanks to sponsorship from Border Biscuits and donations from its audiences and supporters.
The piano is a community asset, and the community is invited to come and hear it played - free!
“The pianists have so far all been from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and they have been quite brilliant,” said a spokesman.
“Yicheng Pan from China, Kristina Yorgova from Bulgaria and Yoonjeong Kim from South Korea have put the piano thoroughly through its paces with stunning performances of Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Liszt, Debussy and others.”
There are four further free concerts on July 10, July 24, August 7 and August 21, starting with three further RCS pianists, Edyta Mydlowska from Poland, Gouda Indriunaite, and Daniel Hart from Cuba.
“Judging by the first three recitals, everyone who comes will be in for a memorable experience.” said the spokesman.
The final recital will be by Ethan Loch, the 11-year-old prodigy from Falkirk whose solo concert in May last year was the first fundraising event for the new piano.
