Firefighters used airbags and a winch to release an injured man from a car following a collision on the A72 at Larkhall this morning (Monday January 11).

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews were mobilised in response to a 999 call around 7.55am and two appliances from Hamilton Community Fire Station reached the scene within seven minutes to find the vehicle on its side.

The incident commander, Watch Manager Damien Lavery, said: “A man was physically trapped so we immediately prepared an extrication plan to safely release him.

“Our crews deployed airbags and a winch, which stabilised the vehicle and allowed firefighters to free the casualty.”

SFRS crews worked alongside ambulance personnel at the scene, and the injured man was taken to Wishaw General Hospital by ambulance while firefighters made the scene safe before leaving around 8.55am.
