Festive fun as Lanark Christmas lights go on

Lanark High Street will be crammed with stalls selling all manner of crafts and food today (Saturday) as the annual Christmas Market comes to town.

The High Street will be closed to traffic while stalls are set up in the wee small hours, and the market, bursting with goodies, will delight shoppers from 9am onwards.

The Christmas lights will be switched on at 5pm, but before then Clyde 1’s Knoxy will be hosting an afternoon of entertainment, games and giveaways in the run up to the arrival of Santa.

The entertainment will feature performances from local dance and theatre groups, a festive sing-a-long and, of course, an appearance from Santa Claus!

Mix and Mingle Artist will work the crowds across the afternoon.

There will even be guaranteed snow, as the switching on of the lights will trigger a fall of flakes from above!

Timetable for the afternoon is:

2.00 pm – 2.15 pm Introduction from DJ Steve Courtney

2.15 pm – 2.35 pm ICE Theatre Group

2.40 pm – 3.00 pm LPG – Theatre Group

3.00 pm – 3.05 pm DJ Steve (welcome and throw-aways)

3.05 pm – 3.20 pm Festive Set from Christmas Boyband Show

3.20 pm – 3.40 pm DJ Steve with games and audience sing-a-long

3.40 pm – 4.00 pm Clyde 1’s Knoxy with games, prizes, music, and audience interaction.

4.00 pm – 4.05 pm Lanimer Silver Club Draw

4.05 pm – 4.10 pm St Andrew’s Hospice – Lyndsey Morrison

4.10 pm – 4.50 pm Christmas Boyband Show – Main Set

4.50 pm – 5.00 pm Clyde 1’s Knoxy introduces Provost Eileen Logan, Lanimer Queen Jenna Bruce, the Lord Cornet Gordon Gray and Santa on stage for the big Christmas Countdown. Music sing-a-long, and all the cast will be back on the stage or in front of it for finale.

5.00 pm – 5.05 pm Provost Logan says a few words and wishes the crowd Merry Christmas and then starts the Countdown to the Switch On and the snowfall!
