Lesmahagow Young Farmers anniversary

For a small area, it's a remarkable achievement that the Lesmahagow and District Young Farmers Club has been running for 75 years this year.

And, as part of the anniversary celebrations, the organisation held a field day last month at Auldtoun Farm, by kind permission of the Muirhead family.

Past, present and future members along with friends of LYFC met up to take part in what was described as a great day out for all.

The crowds enjoyed refreshments provided by Country Bake, Roans Dairy, Damn Delicious and Richard Oxley’s bar, while the younger generation had great fun playing in the ‘bale’ pool, with evening drawing in the only thing that stopped the fun.

Old photos and a display of club jumpers provided a great chance to walk down memory lane for many, with the Vintage Tractor Club providing a display of classic tractors from days gone by.

The day started off with team competitions with 11 teams competing. Muscles were on display at the bale push, while only three people needed plasters in the potato peeling contest. Some cheating went on in the toilet roll tower building, and technique was key in tossing the sheaf.

The stockjudging competition ran throughout the day and was a big draw.
