Bulbs will make Bothwell even brighter

Brighter Bothwell volunteers planted 10,000 purple crocus bulbs in support of Rotary International's Purple4Polio campaign to rid the world of the crippling disease.

Help was also on hand from members of Bothwell and Uddingston Rotary Club, scouts and Bothwell and Uddingston SWRI.

The bulbs were planted in Gilchrist Garden and at the approach to Bothwell from the Raith Interchange. It’s hoped they will provide a welcome display of colour in the spring, as well as an early source of nectar for pollinators.

The Royal Horticultural Society, as part of its Greening Grey Britain for Health and Happiness campaign, teamed up with rotary clubs across the UK to transform public spaces. The purple of the crocuses represents the purple dye used to mark the finger of a child who has been immunised against polio.
