Police Scotland is joining forces with European colleagues this week to target foreign criminals on Scotland’s roads.
Operation Trivium, which also involves Latvia, Republic of Ireland, Bulgaria, Romania and the Netherlands, will blitz foreign-plated and UK vehicles with automatic number place recognition, which will flag up if the car is uninsured or linked to a crime.
The aim is to crack down on criminals who cross borders in a bid to cover their tracks. A similar operation in the summer detected 354 road traffic offences and resulted in 11 arrests.
