ON Saturday people of Carluke and the surrounding area have the chance to support the town’s premier musical group, Carluke Primrose Orchestral Flutes.
They will be performing their 35th Annual Concert in Carluke Lifestyles Centre at 7.30pm.
This year the orchestra have a new format with Marshall Pretswell presenting the musical pieces to the audience.
Conductor John Bryce has chosen a programme to suit all tastes.
The first selection of music comes from various famous films such as Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Pink Panther Theme. To finish the first half the conductor has chosen March Number 4 from Edgars Pomp and Circumstance.
The second half of the concert includes Tchaikovsky’s Andante Cantabile. John Bryce will play a flute and guitar duet with Paul Adams and then the orchestra will perform Highlights from Annie. The conductor has written a new piece of music specially for the orchestra. He has called it Primrose Polka. To finish the concert the orchestra will perform the famous Waltz Number 2 from Shostakovich’s The Jazz Suite and then Ron Goodwin’s march 633 Squadron.
“We are really looking forward to this year’s concert,” said a member. “We have been working hard and this year’s selection of music is all introduced recently and many items will be performed for the first time in Carluke.”
Tickets, priced £7, are still available from members, the website www.carlukeprimrose.org.uk or at the door on Saturday evening .
