DESPITE the fierce competition on offer from 277 other dogs, it was 18-month-old black cocker spaniel Whinburn Capercaillie which was voted Best In Show at Carluke and District Canine Society’s annual show.
No fewer than 75 canine classes were judged at Carluke Leisure Centre, in an event which show manager Loraine Ratter declared to be an overwhelming success.
“It was the first show we’d staged since 2010 and I can honestly say that the committee, secretary and myself were overwhelmed by the level of support it received,” she said.
“It was great that we had dogs and their owners coming here from all over Scotland, including as far away as Aberdeen.
“The winning cocker spaniel – which had qualified for the final by winning the Gundog category – had a really outstanding temperament and showed really well.
“He was well-known for having won in his breed at other competitions.”
