Baton honour for former cop Dilawer

Cathcart’s Dilawer Singh took up the baton at Ibrox last week in honour of a colourful career.

Mr Singh was the first Asian police officer in Scotland and served 31 years with Strathclyde Police, making it to the rank of inspector and serving the Govan and Giffnock areas before retiring.

The southsider was also on the Commonwealth Games bid team, and has just been awarded an MBE for his contribution to sport, with a date to meet the queen coming up soon.

Dilawer took part in the Queen’s Baton Relay on Tuesday, marking the end of the route and the start of the Commonwealth Games.
