ESSENTIAL resurfacing works are to take place on John Street in Carlke from Monday.

The road will be closed between its junction with the A73 and its junction with Chapel Street for up to five days.

South Lanarkshire Council is warning that there will be some disruption, and suggesting drivers avoid the area if possible.

The work begins on July 11 and the the alternative route for vehicles travelling west will be via A721 Carnwath Road, turn right onto Chapel Street, left onto Glamis Avenue, left onto A73 Stewart Street, continue onto A73 Kirkton Street then finally left onto John Street.

Vehicles travelling in the opposite direction should follow the diversion vice versa.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Enterprise Services Committee, Councillor Chris Thompson, said: “These works are essential to carry out resurfacing of the road at this location.

“Unfortunately it cannot be done without some disruption to road users and we apologise for that.

“We would advise people to avoid the area if at all possible, or if not to try and ensure they allow themselves extra time for their journey.”
