FOR hardy auld Lanarkians who did it in blizzards in their youth, the 2013 Whuppity Scoorie took place in what seemed freak weather conditions!
Yes; the Royal Burgh’s annual ceremony to beat out the winter was actually conducted under a spring-like, pure blue sky.
It certainly brought out the crowds of young Lanarkians, keeping one of their town’s very oldest traditions alive.
And it prompted the chairman of the organising Lanark Community Council, Frank Gunning, to exclaim: “This is the best turnout for years. If it keeps growing like this, there’s going to be a Whuppity Scoorie for as long as there’s a Royal Burgh here.”
