Fab one out of four ain’t bad

These days few of us can say the same thing, and as a result, solo tours by the remaining members sell out fast – even with a staggering price tag attached.

Hot on the heels of Sir McCartney last year is the underdog of the group, Ringo Starr.

The former mop-top and his All Starr Band arrive in Glasgow tonight on the one and only Scottish leg of their European summer tour.

The pop legend has already been to Kiev, Moscow, Gothenburg and London – to name a few – but a loyal fanbase is expected at the Clyde Auditorium to give the band a warm Glasgow welcome.

So what can audience members young and old alike expect from the drummer-turned-solo-performer?

Far from ignoring his foremost claim to fame (and what many audience members want to hear), Ringo’s show is a mix of classic Beatles tunes like (ITALS) With a Little Help From My Friends (ITALS), as well as new material with influences in blues, country, honky-tonk and soul.

The All Starr Band has been touring since 1989, occasionally substituting the line-up with artists both well-known and up-and-coming.

The formation this year includes rock guitarist Rick Derringer of the McCoys, bassist Richard Page of Mr Mister, The Romantics’ Wally Palmar, Edgar Winter, Gary Wright and Gregg Bissonette.

While no one can guarantee the same experience as seeing the Fab Four in their glory days, Ringo Starr remains one of an ever-dwindling list of stars from an era which created pop music – and for that, we might lend him an ear for a night.
