CLYDESDALE may have only one athlete at the Commonwealth Games but a whole host of locals have been having a blast at the Games.

Volunteer Rab Donnachy said: “The buzz in the athletes village is amazing and we are having a blast meeting and walking with all the athletes.”

Matthew McGuigan was at Ibrox at the weekend for the Rugby Sevens and saw a terrific weekend of action.

Jamieson Dance Academy pupils Lauren Kelly and Emma Davidson performed at the opening ceremony and will also be getting their dancing shoes on at the closing ceremony at Hampden.

Ruth Downie was also part of the opening ceremony despite being in a car accident three months ago.

She said: “It was definitely worth the pain and sleepless nights.”

Laura Henderson is a Clydesider based at the Tollcross Aquatics Centre and has seen Scottish swimmers making a real splash.

Dancer Daniel Brawley, from Lanark, had time for a quick picture with actor James McAvoy before performing in front of 40,000 people. “Backstage James McAvoy, Amy MacDonald and the other big names mixed with the dancers, bands and volunteers,” said Daniel.

And Lanarkian Cheryl Stewart has been mixing with royalty and A-Listers during her time working at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow with the Protocol team.
