Wheely bold charity stunt

A Thornliebank man is calling for support in what may be a charity first for Scotland.

David Davidson is going round the bend for charity – or, to be more precise, going backwards around Rouken Glen pond in a wheelchair.

The 40-year-old will be wheeling backwards round the pond until he hits the mile mark in distance to raise cash and awareness in support of The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign dubbed ‘Move a Mile for Muscles’.

Spectators are welcome to cheer David on but he would be delighted to see other fundraisers walking, skipping or wheeling around the pond with him.

David has ‘unspecified muscular dystrophy’ - a muscle wasting condition - and is hoping his wheelchair rugby team mates from Glasgow’s Caledonian Crushers will join in the challenge and help up the numbers for his chosen charity.

He said: “It’s an untreatable condition and the money raised will go to moving us closer to a potential treatment for muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular conditions.”

The Boathouse Cafe at the park will be open from 11am for an 11.30am start this Saturday, August 23, Anyone wanting to join in should expect to circle the pond for around two and a half laps to make up the mile.
