Packed programme for Carluke Ham and Jam Festival

The fifth annual Carluke Ham and Jam Festival is now underway with a packed programme of events.

To celebrate the milestone of the celebration named after the town’s two most famous products, the festival has expanded to five days of attractions.

One of the major events, the Carluke High School Jam Concert takes place tomorrow (Thursday) starting at 7pm. Tickets costing £5 (£3 concession) will be available at the door. On Friday, there is the Primary School Showcase event.

On Saturday, the Jam and Ham Parade is held in the town centre, setting off from Hamilton Street at 10.30am, heading for Mount Stewart Street.

The procession will be led by Carluke Gala Queen 2018 Tammy Cunningham, followed by local nursery school children, Wishaw and District Boys Brigade Band and horse-drawn carriages including a Ramsay of Carluke-themed cart. After the parade reaches Mount Stewart Street, Queen Tammy will, at 11am, declare open this year’s Jam and Ham Jamboree. This will feature an art exhibition, free funfair, a makers craft market, the Jampionship 2018 plus live music.

At the other end of the town centre, in Rankin Gait there will also be live music plus baking and a display by the Circle Dancers.

Music during The Jamming Weekend consists of: at the Railway Inn on Friday singer Kerri Taylor, on Saturday the blues band One Foot in the Groove and on Sunday singer Billy Thomson. At the Caledonian Bar there is the rock band JTD in The Gallery, on Saturday a disco, also in The Gallery, and on Sunday a Singalong in the bar with Alan Marshall. The Wee Thackit has Peely’s Karaoke on Friday, singer Bobby Fraser on Saturday and karaoke on Sunday.

The Jam and Ham Finale takes place in Carluke Lifestyles on Saturday from 7pm to midnight, hosted by local rock legend Horse and with a bill featuring McFleetwood, Yer Nana, JJ Gilmour and Bottle of Steven.
