IT’S not every shopper who is greeted with a hero’s welcome when they pop into their local Tesco store.
But that’s exactly what happened to Auchenheath woman Margo McAuley.
On entering the Lesmahagow Tesco store accompanied by her aunt Moira Hillan, Margo found a hearty round of applause and a bouquet of flowers awaiting her in recognition of her winning ‘gold’ at the annual Summer games staged by the Special Olympics GB organisation for disabled athletes.
She took first place in the Mixed Pairs Carpet Bowls section of the games, held in Bath, her playing partner being another ‘local’ namely Andrew Harrison of Carluke.
It was an even better games for Andrew, picking up his own individual first place medal to go with the pairs he won with Margo.
