Manager McInally is put through the mill
LANARK United manager Tony McInally watched his troops beat Superleague aces Bellshill 12-11 in an incredible penalty shoot-out triumph.
Victory in the nail-biting Central League Cup 2nd Round clash has United followers believing that they could repeat last season's success and win the cup again this time.
"It was nerve-racking," Tony said. "Every penalty shoot-out is.
"It is in the hands of the Gods when it gets to that stage. You just hope the players hold their nerve.
"But my players are good at penalties. We beat Cumbernauld on penalties in this season's Scottish Cup, and I think the players drew on that experience.
"I'm delighted to get through. I didn't think the game should have even gone to penalties, as we were the better team throughout."
With big guns like Bellshill, Pollok and Petershill now out, United have every chance of repeating last season's heroics.
LANARK UNITED..... 2 BELLSHILL...................... 2
(Lanark win 12-11 on Penalties)
(Central League Cup, 2nd Round)

EX-LANARK manager Tom MacDonald and his coaching staff were given a warm reception on their return to Moor Park in charge of super legue Bellshill.
The visitors opened the scoring on three minutes when Brian Felvus netted from close range following a left wing corner.
United replied with a Tommy Franch shot which was parried by keeper Scott McNab, and Craig Miles' follow-up header scraped the top of the bar.
Kieran Downs then produced a strong run on the left but saw his shot well held by McNab.
Lanark's Paul Burns then surged through the middle and sent a rising shot inches over.
United equalised on 39 minutes when Downs sent his shot racing inside the keeper's right hand post.
Lanark were shocked when Bellshill took a surprise lead on the hour mark.
A harmless looking free-kick was played upfield into the penalty area where Davy Middleton sent a back header flying over his keeper's head into the net.
United sent on subs Mark Keegans, Grant Cuthill and John Osbourne on 65 minutes and a minute later won a penalty when a defender clearly handled inside the box. Davy Middleton stepped up to blast past McNab and level the scores.
Craig Stark's header was then cleared off the line.Osborne saw his shot blocked and his second effort flew over the top.
Kieran Downs was played in by Osborne on 37 minutes, but put the ball wide with only the keeper to beat.
McNab again saved 'HIll with a diving save to keep out Osborne.
The following penalty shoot-out produced an amazing 28 kicks before the result was decided!
After five kicks each, both teams had missed once to take it into sudden death. Both teams scored with the next four to be tied at 8-8.
Ex-United player Allan Watson saw his effort saved by Tom McGuigan, which left Mark Keegans to win it for United. But McNab kept his team in it with a save low to his left.
Both goalkeepers then scored to keep the scores level at nine all. By this time darkness was descending and something had to give.
Kevin McDonald and Martin McLaughlan scored for Bellshill and Paul Burns and John Osborne netted for United to make it 11-all.
Hill's Stuart Boyd then saw his shot brilliantly saved by McGuigan and this left United's Grant Cuthill to apply the coup-de-grace, which he duly did to send United through to the next round after a remarkable 28 penalty kick decider.
TEAM: McGuigan, Franch, Burns, Middelton, Gray, Struthers, Hanlon, Stark, Miles, Downs, Jaffray. Subs: Osborne, Cuthill, Keegans, Brown.

LANARK UNITED..... 1 LARKHALL THISTLE... 1
(Central Division One, Tuesday)

CRAIG Stark opened the scoring for United on 10 minutes after Thistle keeper Mark Burrell had fumbled a left wing free-kick by Tom Hanlon.
Alan Pike equalised on 35 minutes when he latched on to a poorly defended free-kick and left keeper Tom McGuigan helpless with a low drive.
On 47 minutes Thistle keeper Burrell again looked vulnerable at a right wing free-kick by Darren Jaffray, but he recovered to kick behind for a corner.
Miles then missed an easy chance when he headed over from close range.
On the hour a full scale free-for-all erupted and when calm was restored Thistle's Brian Wattret and United's Darren Jaffray were both shown the red card by the referee.
Pike came close for Thistle on 81 minutes, but his angled drive flew past the post.
United were unlucky when a powerful header by David Middleton was kept out in a crowded area by one of his own players.
Craig Miles had a great chance to win it for United on 88 minutes but his raking shot flew across the face of the goal but past the post.
The final drama of an extremely tough contest came in the final minute when Alan Pike was sent off using an elbow into the face of Tommy Franch.
