Dougie can boogie!
Former Lanark United ace celebrates his first Caley goal at last
WHAT a way to break his duck!
Former Lanark United ace Dougie Imrie netted a sensational free-kick for Caley Thistle in Saturday's 3-0 SPL home hammering of Kilmarnock.
The strike marked Imrie's first goal for the Highlanders since signing from first division Clyde in January.
"I was delighted to score on Saturday and get the three points," Dougie (24) said.
"It was a while coming.
"It was getting a bit frustrating waiting for my first goal, because I'd had chances in a few games.
"You just have to keep your head down and get on with it. I was glad when I saw the ball fly into the net on Saturday.
"That was definitely one of the best goals I've scored. It was brilliant to do it in Scotland's top flight.
"I practice them sometimes in training, but didn't expect to get the chance to take one during a game.
"I will be at the front of the queue from now on when we get free-kicks!"
Saturday's victory puts Inverness on 39 points, in ninth place in the SPL with just four league matches remaining. Caley are six points behind seventh-placed Hearts, but Imrie believes his team are well capable of pegging back that deficit.
"We will be looking to finish as high as we can," he added.
"We are trying to win four games out of four and get seventh spot.
"If we keep playing the way we are, that shouldn't be a problem.
"And hopefully I can now get on a good run of scoring goals."
Imrie says he's settled in well at Inverness since arriving from Clyde.
"I'm really enjoying it up here," he added.
"It's a bit of a change from what I was used to at Clyde. I used to go home to the family.
"But up here, I have a house with another lad.
"These days when I get home, I either cook in the house or go out for a meal.
"I make new friends everywhere I go. My best pals at Caley are Phil McGuire and Marius Nicolae.
"I've got 2½ years to run on my contract with Caley. If I can keep playing well, you never know what could happen after that."
Dougie still looks out for Lanark United's results. He was delighted that United managed an incredible 12-11 penalty shoot-out win on Friday in the Central League Cup second round.
His ex-United manager Tom MacDonald returned as boss of visitors Bellshill for the cup thriller. But Rambo was to leave Moor Park disappointed as his troops lost an epic shoot-out following a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes.
"That sounds like a great game to have been at," Dougie added.
"I really enjoyed my time at United. We had great times, including winning the Evening Times Cup. Tam MacDonald was good and everyone at the club helped me a lot.
"I hope Lanark can get a few more victories and get into the Superleague."
