IF you heard that eight teams of curlers – five groups of whom were in wheelchairs – would soon be meeting up to slide their curling stones at a huge haggis around 35m down an ice rink, your initial reaction might be one of surprise.

But, incredibly enough, Gazette Sport can reveal that’s exactly what will happen when the world’s first haggis curling competition is held at Hamilton Ice Rink from 1.15pm on Monday November 28.

Organiser Arthur Bell, of Coulter, said: “Some might say that what we’re doing is sheer insanity.
