RAVENSTRUTHER boxer Willie Hutchison (16) landed a stunning silver medal against more senior opponents at a world class competition in Anapa, Russia, last week.
The European 69kg champion, of Newhouse Park Farm, defeated four opponents who were up to two years older at the Nikolay Pavlyukov tribute event, before a controversial split decision defeat to a Kazakhstan fighter in the final.
The Lanark-born boxer’s grandfather William Barton, who watched Willie fighting in Russia via live internet coverage, said: “What Willie did was unbelievable. Getting a silver medal surpassed all his expectations.”
