ATHLETES from Clydesdale schools figured prominently in the South Lanarkshire Track and Field Championships at Carluke’s John Cumming Stadium.
In the P6 events, the girls 100m was won by Jordan Pringle from Forth Primary, with Gemma Marriot from Braidwood Primary taking top honours in the girls long jump, Enrico Jannetta from St Athanasius Primary winning the boys long jump and Forth Primary’s Scott Blacklaw coming third in the boys 100m.
There was further success at P7 level, with Braidwood Primary’s Emily McNicol winning the girls long jump ahead of second placed New Lanark Primary pupil Amy Urquhart.
The girls 600m was won by Argyll Ried from New Lanark Primary.
First placed runner in the girls 100m was Blackwood Primary’s Lauren Milligan.
Fellow Blackwood pupil Ross Lyttle won the boys 600m, with Morgan Jones of Law Primary finishing third in the boys 100m.
Competing athletes had qualified for the championships through area finals, which made for excellent competition and really close finishes at an event organised by South Lanarkshire Leisure & Culture.
Winners were presented with their medals by Councillor Hamish Stewart, Chair of the Board of South Lanarkshire Leisure & Culture.
Councillor Stewart said: ”This was a marvellous event and it was a delight to watch all those young athletes from all over South Lanarkshire giving their all in their chosen sport, and with such good camaraderie throughout the day.
“We at South Lanarkshire Leisure & Culture would like to thank all the teachers, parents and volunteers who came along and helped out at all of the four area events and also the final on the day. Congratulations to our winners and all our competitors.”
