Carluke On The Run Races 2014 Slideshow

RUNNING ace Robert Gilroy completed a glorious Clydesdale double by romping to five-mile race glory at Sunday’s sensational Carluke On

The Run event.

Gilroy, of Ronhill Cambuslang Harriers, blitzed a top class John Cumming Stadium field to add this title to the Tom Scott Road Race prize he won in the spring.

“Robert led from start to finish,” said Carluke On The Run organiser Tom Sneddon, chairman of Carluke Development Trust. “He was more than two minutes ahead of the second placed runner in the five-mile race.

“Winning our race and the Tom Scott Race in the same year is an absolutely fantastic achievement by him.”

Law and District AAC members Darren Muir and Luke Foss took second and third places in the five-mile contest in 28mins 48secs and 29mins 13secs respectively.

The day also featured a Fun Mile event and the 98 entries meant that four separate races had to be staged to cope!

Participants in the Fun Mile included 19 children from the Nell’s Footprints group. Founder Vicky Rogers walked the route with her daughter Emmy to raise money to support families affected by the trauma of having a stillborn child. Vicky and her husband David were devastated when their baby Nell was stillborn in January. The team raised £3888.
