Thankerton neighbours win top bowling titles
A PAIR of Thankerton Bowling Club members who've been next door neighbours for 10 years have beaten off competition from hundreds of rival players to win three prestigious Lanarkshire titles between them within a matter of days.
Colin Thorburn (40), clinched both the Champion of Champions at Dalziel BC and the Lanarkshire Finals at Hamilton Caledonian BC, before his Mill Road neighbour Margaret Russell (55) won the Ladies Champion of Champions at Red Deer BC in East Kilbride.
"These are the two biggest victories of my bowling life," said Colin.
"I think I'm the only person ever to win them both in the same year, so I'm chuffed.
I celebrated the successes by having a couple of drinks."
