New Forth boss John McGhee was in dark in former job

NEW Forth Wanderers manager John McGhee twice had to train his squad in pitch darkness during his last gaffer's post at skint Glasgow outfit St Roch's.

"We didn't have any floodlighting at St Roch's," McGhee (58) told Gazette Sport.

"So we went to Hogganfield Loch and trained by the side of the road.

"We had two training sessions there before I said it wasn't acceptable.

"There was no money at St Roch's. The players weren't paid.

"All they got was a tracksuit to wear on a Saturday.

"But they raised 4500 from selling tickets, which gave us money to pay for proper training.

"We ended up training at a couple of local schools instead, on the ash under floodlighting.

"But the facilities here at Forth are smashing. We can train on the astroturf here on a Monday night. And we can also train at Wishaw Sports Centre on Wednesday and Thursday evenings."
