Lanark Fight Night raises £5000
A FIGHT night at Lanark Auction Market helped raise more than £5000 for charity.
Organised by Lanark and District Round Table, more than 400 people attended the event.
And they witnessed 22 boxers go toe to toe in 11 action packed three-round bouts featuring bantamweights, lightweights, welterweights, light heavyweights and super heavyweights.
The Round Table has played host to a number of exhibition bouts before.
But these Amateur Boxing Scotland fights were for the right to compete in the final of the national championships in Bonnyrigg on March 27.
Graeme Glen, event organiser, said: "It went down really well and there was a great atmosphere all night.
"Other nights we've had have been exhibitions but these were actual title fights and the competition was deadly serious.
"To my untrained eye the fights were all of a high standard — I didn't want to climb in the ring with them, that's for sure!"
Friday 13th was certainly lucky for the winning boxers and for the Round Table which will deposit the money raised into its local charities account ready to be distributed to various good causes throughout the year.
