International Children's Games declaration signed

TEN months before Lanarkshire hosts its biggest ever international event, a historic declaration has been signed at Motherwell's Civic Centre.

International Children's Games President Torsten Rasch joined respective North and South Lanarkshire Provosts Tom Curley and Russell Clearie, to endorse the host agreement contract for the Games from August 3 to 8, 2011.

Around 2,000 athletes from around 90 cities worldwide are expected to attend the event.

Torsten Rasch said: "We're very happy to be coming to Scotland for the first time.

"I can already see that North and South Lanarkshire are very prepared for the Games. They look like they will be of a high quality thanks to all the expertise going into their organisation.

"The memories of Lanarkshire 2011 will last a lifetime and we're already counting down the days until the Lanarkshire 2011 International Children's Games."
